Maia Mongado and other Asian American Voices

Living Literature is thrilled to be a part of this special event: AAPI Heritage Month Celebration® at Washington Park Library at 1316 Broad Street, Providence, Rhode Island. This event is free and open to the public.

Join us for this fabulous free event beginning at 12:30 on Saturday May 6th, to see Maia Mongado and Indigo Mudbhary perform a staged reading of several of Ms Mongado’s articles published in the AAPI journal. The articles are bookended with poems by Kimberly Nguyen and Cecilia Borromeo.

Join us again on May 13th, for a recorded version of the performance!

Free Finger food and Lemonade will be provided 

This is Rhode Island’s first month-long celebration for the AAPI Heritage Month

First Saturday, 5/6/23 – Start the celebration with an introduction of Asian American history through songs and music. Learn more about the local history of Rhode Island. You will walk away with the knowledge of your state’s local history with a sense of purpose and community 

Second Saturday, 5/13/23 – Immerse yourself in the Cambodian and Thai cultures through their dances. Experience the connection of the divine power with the dances and joy that these dances offer. 

Third Saturday, 5/20/23 – Walk alongside the journey of this adoptive mom who shares her story of adopting a girl from China and the cultural transformation for both of them. See this artist mom’s exhibit and illustration of her adoption journey and learn some relaxation techniques through Chinese calligraphic art and breathing techniques.
